Minimum required coverage in Alabama and Louisiana

Like auto insurance, Alabama and Louisiana require certain minimum levels of coverage for motorcycle insurance.

Alabama’s minimum levels are:

  • $25,000 bodily injury coverage per person
  • $50,000 bodily injury coverage total per incident
  • $25,000 property damage coverage per incident

Louisiana’s minimum levels are:

  • $15,000 bodily injury coverage per person
  • $30,000 bodily injury coverage total per incident
  • $25,000 property damage coverage per incident

Bodily Injury Liability

Bodily Injury Liability Insurance protects you if you cause an accident in which other people are injured or killed. It pays for damages including hospital bills and medical care, lost wages, pain and suffering, and death.

Guest Passenger Liability

Specifically covers a guest passenger riding with you on your motorcycle.

Property Damage Liability

Provides reimbursement to repair someone else’s vehicle if you cause an accident which results in damage to the property of others. It does not cover damage to your property.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage

Provides payment for expenses associated with injury or death from an accident caused by an uninsured, underinsured, or hit-and-run driver. It also covers you if you are hit as a pedestrian.

Comprehensive

Provides payment for repairs or replacement if your bike is stolen, vandalized or damaged in some way other than in a collision. Includes loss or damage from fire, flood, falling objects, wind and collision with an animal.

Collision
